Email a friend a gratitude message

Laugh-find something on youtube or those cat websites if you need help

Tell really bad jokes with friends (or better yet to strangers in elevators)

Make a date to connect for tea, coffee lunch or dinner, or a walk

Write a postcard-we rarely get real mail and it’s such a treat

Write a note to your future self and leave it in an envelope with to be opened date

Sit and snuggle with your pet

People watch in the space you are in,  just observe

When stuck in traffic say nice things to the other people in the cars around you and see if that changes everything

Turn around and walk away if you see someone you don’t want to connect with

Send and email, or a postcard, to friends or family with a favorite recipe

Make list of fun activities you love to do and who it would be fun to do them with- consult and plan things from this list often

Plan future vacations in your journal

Leave flowers or origami cranes or other magical treasures on door steps or desks of neighbors

Plan a surprise un-birthday party for someone you love

not really… but during the voyage my business and i took at the end of october i did talk a lot about marshmallows.

and through that i have realized that really i’m tired of being tight and  tense and reactionary and cranky-miss-cranker-pants. i just want to be soft and squishy. like a marshmallow.

so i put together an ebook about permission, and pampering, and the right to choose self care as a lifestyle. as part of it i am currently compiling a GIANT LIST OF PERMISSION or things you can do in 5 minutes.

because everyone knows we have no time for permission, or relaxation, or *gasp* play.

so here’s part one (i’d LOVE  to add yours to the list) more to follow every monday through december! this year lets make the holidaze permission filled!

permission to move!

Put on your favorite song and dance
Do some flailing aka the Dance of Shiva (see shivanata.com for started kit)
Jump rope
Walk around the block
Do a warrior pose (ninja, knight, pirate) or do one of the variations from yoga
Practice ballet (really great leaps and twirls in your own clumsy way)
Do some fake (or real) tai chi (just do what flowy stuff feels right)
Hula hoop with a real or pretend hoop
Jump on a trampoline (real or fake)
Jumping Jacks
Make a snow angle, in the snow, in fall leaves, in grass or sand or just in the carpet
Pretend you are leading a parade around your house
Put on Abba and be the ‘dancing queen’
Drive with the windows open
Sing really loud in the car
Blow bubble and pop them
Watch your pet and mimic their movements
Roll around on the floor
Be a fake ninja or super hero or other action hero or villain
Jump on the bed
Put on the song ‘American Woman’ or ‘short skirt long jacket’ and strut your stuff
Do a 5 minute burlesque show, complete with feathers or sparkly things, just for your sexy self

so while the red book is mainly about dealing with PMS, we have to see the correlation between menopause and PMS. for one they are both imbalances in the body. so all the exercises the red reflexology book will help calm and sooth and nurture your reproductive system back to closer balance.

for emphasis i would focus primarily on the endocrine organs; the pituitary, the pineal, the adrenals and give them some extra love. a strange and un-thought of organ to focus on is the pancreas. mostly the pancreas helps us digest our foods however there is a small part of it that has endocrine function. a good friend and fellow reflexologist of mine has been playing with the pancreas for the past year and noting its effect on hot flashes and sweats. so pull out the map that comes with the red book or find your own map here in the vast data available on the internets and work those endocrine glands helping support the changes occurring in the body and smooth out the transition.

again pituitary is the master glad so hang out with those big toes, the pineal helps all things sleep related, adrenals reduce your stress and calming them helps reduce the amount of stress toxins being dumped into your system, and the pancreas will help your digestion flow and very probably will help reduce those heat related menopause symptoms.

see this time of year when we switch from our winter shoes to our summer shoes our feet have a minor panic attack and start doing things like cramping up and hurting and getting plantar fasciitis. yuck.

head over here and do these 4 simple exercises to get your feet in shape so they are ready for whatever strappy thing you decide to throw them into. alternatively you can use the tabs on top and find the foot exercises page under reflexology.

two easy things no mentioned on the exercise page are:

  1. throw a tennis or golf ball on the floor and give yourself a foot massage
  2. fill a bucket or bowl or tun with hot water and some epsom salt and soak your feet, the salt have high concentration of magnesium which is a muscle re-builder and relaxer.

here are two of the most awesome reflex points ever.

and the best part is they help with all forms of pain! from sore muscles to injury to overall tension to cramps or headaches.

point #1 also corresponds to the uterus reflex and let me tell you that when those cramps kick up taking an index finger and stuffing it in my ear really helps.

i know it sounds weird. but try it.

obviously you can’t hold both points at once but you can alternate between the two as things shift and change or your fingers get uncomfortable. also you work on both ears at the same time which might be too much or might be just right.

with ear reflexology when a point is over stimulated i notice a lot of heat or a softening in the tissue or a… well almost a clicking sound or sensation in my finger. this means it’s time to work on a different point on the ears or maybe work on the hands. if the pain is not gone come back. alternating between ears, hands and feet will always get you results but you must be patient. sometimes these techniques take a few minutes to register in your body.

Ankles Rock!

if you’ve ever seen me for a session in real life you know i have a deep appreciation for the ankle. structurally it is an incredible mechanism and reflexively it supports the base of the spine and the entire lower pelvis and lower digestive system.

i am forever rambling on about the benifits of taking 1 minute a day to roll out your ankles. simply draw circles in the air and watch how your whole foot and leg and lower back start to feel a little more open and relaxed.

if you work at a desk or are in a meeting kick off your shoes and rotate those ankles for a little pick me up.

if you struggle with pms or other hormonal imbalances this tiny little action done several times a day is the gateway for opening your body to healing.

there are several reasons i avoided the subject-but i want to address it here and now and get you help.

i avoided it mainly because it is a distress that you can’t fix in the moment unlike the other issues i tackled: cramping, headaches, stomach distress-those things can be solved or reduced now and heavy bleeding can’t just stop- at least as far as i have seen.

so for those of you who suffer periodically or consistently with heavy menstruation here are some points and reflexive techniques you can play with.

in the section of the ebook called calming the system, any of the reflexes that deal with the endocrine system like the pituitary and the thyroid will help. one endocrine gland that i did not mention is the pancreas so grab the foot and hand maps that are included and work that reflex.

calming the system is designed to help regulate your cycle and reduce all wonkiness and symptoms experienced before, during, and after your period.

working on the uterus reflex is going to help establish communication and healing and will  help reduce the tension or miscommunication that is causing the uterus to act so wonky.

non reflexively things like yoga and pilates are going to help balance your entire body and re-align body imbalances.

i have an inkling that part of the reason for heavy bleeding is uterus tilting-our shoes can have a dramatic effect on our pelvic alignment and structure and high heels may be throwing things off just enough that all the reproductive organs behave badly. even if you no longer wear high heels your body may not have reset and you may still be holding pelvic floor and lower abdominal tension and wonkiness.

these are all just thoughts and suggestions. some of them have helped me out, and some of them have helped out friends and clients. i hope they can make a subtle or dramatic improvement in your experience.

for me this is the million dollar question. how do i say what i do?i kinda do too much, and yet it all works and makes me happy and i don’t want to give any of it up yet. so here we go…

i work on feet because reflexology is magic and relaxes a person like nobody’s business, plus when feet hurt everything sucks.

then there is me reading tarot because people need help trusting the signs they are given on a daily basis.

then i do a tiny bit of stuff with massage because people hurt and i need monies

and then there is the faeries who need to say a bunch of stuff about healing self and the planet and making things beautiful and i am trying to organize all of this in my self and then birth it out into the world.

and then… there is art, and cooking/catering for people, and a tiny bit of graphic design every now and again, and some coordination of events and weddings and things that fall in my lap once in a while. oh and sometimes i teach stuff and write stuffs… and… and…

so what do i do? a lot of stuff…

Why do you do it? Do you love it, or do you just have one of those creepy knacks?

i do things because i love them, because i want to learn something new or because people ask me to and i just do.

i felt called to do tarot, i never meant to make money at it-it was a secret passion that one day said-you have to do this for strangers and you have to charge them money-they have to hear what you have ot say.

the faeries kinda didn’t stop talking, their voices faded as i grew older but once i recognized them again they have all sorts of projects for me. i am kinda curious to see where this take me.

Who are your customers? What kind of people would need or want what you offer?

wacky, amazing people who want to change themselves and accidentally save the world in the process.

What’s your marketing USP? Why should I buy from you instead of the other losers?

i think Havi summed it up for me… because it’s way more fun at planet Amy. those other losers make you work for it. here we play for it.

What’s next for you? What’s the big plan?

well it seems as if the plan is show up at a rally (rally!) and see what the faeries have to say. i’ll let you know next week.

my big plan is to make money while i am on vacation. right now you need to book time with me and i only have so much time, so i’m working on expanding products and processes and ebooks and art. stuff that will go out in the world and send back tiny streams of income. so even when i am on vacation money is being exchanged.
